Police Foil 3kg Cannabis Delivery via Courier Service in Tangerang
The Narcotics Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has thwarted an attempt to distribute 3.06 kilograms of cannabis smuggled via a goods expedition service to the Tangerang area, Banten. Police have arrested two men, identified by their initials AS (30) and MM (32), who are strongly suspected of involvement in the illicit cannabis network. ‘We have secured two male suspects, AS and MM. The evidence seized includes a brown cardboard box containing 3,066 grams of cannabis ready for distribution,’ said AKP Budi Purwanto, Unit Head of Sub-Directorate 2, Narcotics Directorate, Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The case came to light following a public tip-off about a suspicious package originating from North Sumatra, sent to an address in the Larangan Utara area, Tangerang City, on Wednesday (15/7). Acting on the report, the investigation team coordinated with the courier company and conducted an undercover delivery, with officers posing as couriers. ‘When the package was handed over at the destination, officers immediately apprehended suspect AS. During initial questioning, AS admitted he was only instructed by MM to receive and collect the package,’ Budi stated. Based on AS’s statement, the team swiftly moved to develop the case and arrested MM at a different location on the same day. From the suspects, police seized a cardboard box containing three packages of cannabis wrapped in brown tape, with gross weights of 1,020 grams, 1,007 grams, and 1,039 grams respectively. In addition to the illicit substance, officers confiscated supporting evidence including two mobile phones, a digital scale, and several empty plastic clips believed to be intended for repackaging the cannabis into smaller packets. Both suspects and all evidence have been transferred to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Narcotics Directorate office for further investigation and case development.
