Police: Fire at GRIB Organisation Post in West Jakarta Caused by Electrical Short Circuit

A post belonging to the community organisation (ormas) GRIB, located in Kedoya, West Jakarta, caught fire. Police said the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit.

“For now, the information is that it was an electrical short circuit. Because no one entered the building,” West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Nasriadi told reporters on Monday (31/8/2026).

Nasriadi dismissed circulating reports suggesting the fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail thrown at the post. The Police Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor) has also inspected the scene.

“The Labfor team is still examining to confirm more clearly. This means that so far there has been no Molotov bomb, no incident or anything — it was truly from an electrical short circuit. But for more details, the Labfor team will conduct a deeper check later,” he explained.

It was previously reported that the fire was reported at 02.49 WIB early this morning. Firefighters began extinguishing efforts at 02.57 WIB. A total of 8 fire engines and 40 personnel were deployed to put out the blaze.

“The object is a GRIB ormas post,” said West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department Operations Section Head Syaiful Kahfi when contacted on Monday (31/8).

“The extinguishing situation is complete. Still in the process of searching for the source of the fire,” said Syaiful.
