Police Find No Civilian Involvement in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case
Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have not found any involvement of civilians in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS.
Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, explained that they had conducted an investigation into the case and it has now been transferred to TNI’s Puspom due to the involvement of TNI personnel.
“We have already reported the handover process to Puspom, and up to the point of handover, we have not found any civilian involvement,” Iman said during a hearing with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Tuesday (31/3).
Iman stated that the acid attack case is now being handled by Puspom TNI, which has detained four BAIS members.
“From the investigation results, after finding facts from the investigation, we can now report to the leadership that the matter has been handed over to Puspom TNI,” he said.
Andrie Yunus was the victim of the acid attack in the central Jakarta area on Thursday night (12/3).
KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), around 23:00 WIB.
Later, TNI stated that it had secured four of its members suspected of being the perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, namely NDP, SL, BHW, and ES.
NDP holds the rank of captain. Meanwhile, SL and BHW hold the rank of first lieutenant (lettu), and ES holds the rank of second sergeant (serda).
All four are assigned to the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS), originating from the Navy and Air Force.
Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya revealed two suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie. The two have different initials from those announced by Puspom TNI.
According to Polda Metro Jaya’s version, the initials of the two perpetrators are BHC and MAK, with the possibility of more than two suspects. To date, Puspom TNI has not provided updates on the case handling.
