Police Find Knife and Machete During Student Protest in Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police discovered a knife and a machete while securing a student demonstration that took place peacefully and in an orderly manner in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that a knife was found when officers searched a protester with the initials AM. Meanwhile, a machete was discovered inside an ambulance driven by MR.

“The expression of aspirations has generally concluded and proceeded safely and in an orderly manner. We would like to thank our fellow students who conveyed their aspirations in an orderly fashion,” said Budi in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Although the event proceeded in an orderly manner, the police are continuing their investigation to uncover the motive and purpose behind the presence of the two sharp objects at the protest site.

Budi also urged all elements of society not to carry sharp objects or other dangerous items when exercising democratic rights in public spaces.

During the security operation, police also recorded that a protester with the initials AF had fainted. A joint medical team from the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Medical and Health Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police immediately provided emergency assistance and evacuated the student to Budi Kemuliaan Hospital.

“Thank God, the student has regained consciousness. This is part of the humanitarian handling during the protest escort. If any participant falls ill or faints, the medical team on standby in the field immediately provides rapid treatment,” said Budi.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police once again expressed appreciation for the maturity shown by the students in maintaining public order, while ensuring that the investigation into the discovery of the knife and machete continues.
