Police Find 2x1 Metre Safe Containing Rp 60 Billion at de'Clan Cafe
Police discovered a large safe during a raid on the de’Clan Signature cafe in the Cipete area of South Jakarta. The safe, located in a second-floor office of the establishment, measures 2x1 metres.
“Yes, regarding the workspace or the two rooms upstairs that were searched as an office, including the storage place for the money, the safe. It turns out the safe that was opened is approximately 2x1 metres in size,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters at the de’Clan cafe, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).
Budi stated that the safe was the size of a room and was used to store documents and cash. He noted that the two rooms on the second floor are suspected of being used as a location for criminal acts of corruption. Police have returned the first-floor operations of the cafe to de’Clan management, but the second floor has been sealed.
“So, the police respect the areas only related to the criminal act, the alleged corruption. Regarding the seizure, this concerns the two rooms,” he said. “We have returned the operations of the first floor to the management. However, the second floor, which serves as an office, has been placed under status quo for the investigation process into the alleged corruption,” he added.
Police previously seized a number of documents and mobile phones during the search at de’Clan Signature. In addition, officers found cash in both rupiah and foreign currencies totalling approximately Rp 60 billion. The seizure is related to investigations into three cases involving state-owned enterprises PLN, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel.
“During the search at The Club location, we seized several documents and electronic devices, including mobile phones,” said the Head of the Corruption Eradication Task Force at the National Police Headquarters, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, at the location on Wednesday (8/7).
The money found in the large safe was in various foreign currency denominations and rupiah. The total amount of cash discovered in the safe was Rp 60 billion. “We seized SGD 3,130,000 in 100 SGD notes, USD 889,965, and Rp 259,159,000 in cash. When converted, the total is approximately Rp 60 billion. This was at the de’Clan location,” he stated.
