Police fails to meet Tommy

JAKARTA: A city police team went to Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta on Tuesday to question Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, but failed to meet him.

Head of the investigative team Comr. Aris Munandar said he was only able to meet Cipinang warden Ngusman.

He refused to elaborate. "Just ask him (Ngusman)," he said.

However, the warden was not available for comment.

The police want to question Tommy in connection statements he made before the court earlier this month, when he said that the police helped him evade capture on his year on the run.

It was the police's third visit to the penitentiary. The first time the warden did not allow them to question Tommy because they had not obtained a permit from the Central Jakarta District Court, which is trying Tommy for murder.

Last week the team met Tommy but had to stop the interview after 10 questions because Tommy claimed he was sick.

Tommy was arrested in November last year after his flight from justice.--JP
