Police facilitate return to work for 4,216 workers affected by layoffs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has facilitated 4,216 workers affected by layoffs (PHK) to return to work through the Police Labour Desk, as part of efforts to strengthen worker protection and industrial relations. Speaking at the virtual commemoration of the 80th Bhayangkara Anniversary in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Police Chief stated that the Labour Desk was established at regional levels to serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration between the police, workers, employers, and other stakeholders in resolving labour issues. “This desk has facilitated 4,216 workers affected by layoffs to return to work and has handled 267 labour crime cases, 40 of which were resolved through restorative justice,” Sigit said. According to him, the Labour Desk’s role extends beyond law enforcement to encouraging the resolution of industrial relations problems through a dialogical approach, aiming to maintain business continuity while protecting workers’ rights. In addition to facilitating the re-employment of laid-off workers, the police also handle various alleged criminal acts in the labour sector as part of efforts to create legal certainty in industrial relations. The Police Chief noted that these measures have received appreciation from labour unions. “Through these efforts, Polri has received an award from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) for its hard work and dedication in providing protection to workers,” he stated. He emphasised that strengthening worker protection is part of Polri’s commitment to maintaining public security and order, while supporting a conducive labour climate for national development.
