Police Explain Reason for Blocking Botok Pati's Account: Protecting Donors
Jakarta Metropolitan Police have revealed the reason for requesting the blocking of a Bank Mandiri account belonging to Supriyono alias Botok, coordinator of the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB).
According to the Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, the blocking was carried out based on information circulating on social media. Iman did not specify the information in question.
However, he said the measure was taken to protect the account holder and the donors who had made contributions.
“We carried this out in order to safeguard and provide protection both to the account holder and to the donors,” Iman said during a press conference with Commission III of the House of Representatives at the parliamentary complex on Wednesday.
According to him, the collection of donations is fundamentally regulated by law, which provides protection guarantees for both donors and recipients.
However, after carrying out clarification, Iman said his office had submitted a request for restoration within a short period, in less than the five-day working period.
“Therefore, subsequently the suspension of the account can be lifted and it returns to the authority of Bank Mandiri,” he said.
Iman assured that the personal data of the donors and Botok Pati in the case remained protected and were not used by irresponsible parties.
“We emphasise that after we carried out confirmation with various parties related to this legal matter, today we announce that the transaction suspension has been lifted and the account can be used again,” he said.
