Police Examine Three Witnesses in Canggu Bar Shooting
The mystery of the type of firearm used by H, the perpetrator of the brutal shooting at The Shady Pig bar on Jalan Raya Berawa, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali, now rests on the results of forensic laboratory tests. Police are still awaiting the examination of a single copper-coloured bullet projectile that was secured as evidence at the scene.
The projectile, which pierced the thigh of a security officer with the initials IMYM before lodging in the thigh of a Chinese national with the initials EA, is now being studied in depth by the Forensic Laboratory Division (Bid Labfor) of Bali Regional Police. This is to establish the specifications and ownership of the perpetrator’s weapon.
The investigation into the shooting, which shocked the international tourist area, is certain to continue after the perpetrator was apprehended at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. To strengthen the evidence regarding the course of events and the ownership of the projectile, investigators from the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit have so far questioned three witnesses.
“A number of witnesses have been questioned — three witnesses — and the results of the projectile examination are still awaited from the Bali Regional Police Forensic Laboratory Division,” said Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, Head of the Public Information Sub-Unit of the Badung Police Public Relations Section.
Police confirmed that detailed information on the motive behind the Indonesian male perpetrator’s reckless act, as well as the full chronology of his escape before capture, will be presented in more detail in the near future. Investigators are currently focused on gathering material evidence and conducting an in-depth investigation. “It will be announced directly by the Police Chief as soon as possible,” she said.
A joint team from the Kuta Utara Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit moved quickly, coordinating with Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and immigration authorities at Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta airports.
H was intercepted and arrested shortly after arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday night (18/7/2026). Following his arrest, he was immediately flown back to Bali to undergo intensive questioning at Badung Police headquarters.
