Police examine multiple parties over Mama Sinta's report

Jakarta Metropolitan Police are continuing to deepen their investigation into a report filed by indigenous women’s rights and environmental activist from Merauke, South Papua, Yasinta Moiwand, known as Mama Sinta. ‘As of today, the investigation process is ongoing by taking statements from a number of parties strongly suspected of being connected to the case,’ said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. Iman explained that, to date, the police are still conducting inquiries by confirming with parties linked to what Mama Sinta conveyed in her report. ‘Likewise, with parties involved in the making of the film in which Mama Sinta appears,’ he said. Head of Public Relations at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, added that in the procedure for handling reports, the police will prioritise questioning the complainant first to clarify the case matter. ‘What is certain is that the complainant will be asked for information first, including later verifying the documents or evidence being reported,’ he said. Furthermore, the police are still investigating the alleged fraud case and illegal collection of personal data. In the report, Budi explained that the complainant listed two individuals as reported parties, identified by the initials JTW and DDL.
