Police Examine Man Who Abused Pomeranian in North Jakarta; Psychiatric Test Planned
Police have examined a man suspected of abusing a Pomeranian dog in the Penjaringan area of North Jakarta. Authorities are involving experts in following up the case.
“He has been examined, and the case file is being processed. Expert statements are also being completed. Since the victim is an animal, there is an examination by a veterinarian regarding the animal’s condition,” said Penjaringan Police Chief AKBP Agta Wijaya when contacted on Friday (12/6/2026).
Agta could not yet disclose the perpetrator’s motive. Police are coordinating with medical professionals to conduct a psychiatric test on the perpetrator.
“Regarding the perpetrator’s status, we examined him immediately after the incident yesterday. There may also be a recommendation for a psychiatric examination,” he said.
Agta added that police will also hold a case conference. Investigations are still ongoing.
“We cannot draw conclusions yet; we are focusing on completing the case file first and preparing to elevate it to the investigation stage. If there is a criminal element, regardless of any psychiatric issues, and if he can be named a suspect, we will proceed further. We cannot conclude now as we still need the results of the psychiatric examination, the examination of the animal victim, and other matters,” he explained.
Video footage circulating on social media depicts the incident occurring at a café. The perpetrator was a visitor who was initially playing with the dog. The man, wearing a red shirt, is said to have exposed his genitals in front of the dog, named ‘Sissy’, and then committed an indecent act amounting to abuse. The dog’s owner caught the perpetrator in the act and stopped him. The perpetrator was then taken to the Penjaringan Police station.
