Jakarta (ANTARA) - Metro Jaya Police conducted an examination of Reni Effendi, the wife of the suspect in the alleged consumer protection violation case involving beauty products and treatments by doctor Richard Lee.

The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, in his statement on Friday, explained that the examination was carried out to deepen the case.

“It is an additional examination as a witness to the incident. Deepening of the previous statement on 16 June 2025,” said Budi.

He mentioned that the examination of the individual has been ongoing since 10:00 WIB and continues to the present.

Previously, Metro Jaya Police detained doctor Richard Lee (DRL) for obstructing the investigation related to the alleged consumer protection violation and beauty products and treatments.

The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026, mentioned two reasons for the detention of the doctor.

“First, the suspect did not attend the additional examination on 3 March 2026 without providing a clear explanation. Instead, on that day, the suspect went live on his TikTok account,” revealed Budi.

“Based on that, the suspect DRL was detained at 21:50 WIB in the Metro Jaya Police detention centre,” stated Budi.

Furthermore, he mentioned that before the detention, DRL had been examined from 13:00 to 17:00 WIB. During that examination process, 29 questions were posed.

Richard Lee was officially designated as a suspect on 15 December 2025 in connection with the alleged consumer protection violation related to beauty products and treatments.

In the police report registered under number LPB Number 7317/XII/2024/SPKT/Metro Jaya Police, Richard Lee is suspected of violating several articles.

First, Article 435 jo. Article 138 paragraph (2) of Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health, with a maximum prison sentence of 12 years and a maximum fine of Rp5 billion.

Then, Article 62 paragraph (1) juncto Article 8 paragraph (1) and Article 9 paragraph (1) of Law Number 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, with a maximum prison sentence of five years and a maximum fine of Rp2 billion.
