Police Examine 80 Witnesses in Little Aresha Jogja Daycare Case
Police have revealed updates on the investigation into the alleged abuse of children at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta. To date, officers have examined 80 witnesses, including parents and children.
“In total, there are 80 witnesses who have been examined,” said Ipda Apri Sawitri, Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) at the Yogyakarta Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit, when contacted on Friday (8/5/2026).
“(Among them) 61 victim parents who have been given statements, but some, for example, one mother for two children. So (total) there are 68 children (who have been examined),” she continued.
All the witnesses examined so far, according to Apri, are from victim children who were active students at the daycare during the raid. She added that no former students of the daycare have yet been examined as witnesses.
This is because the current examination process is being conducted gradually based on the classes at the daycare.
“There are six classes that we raided there, namely Baby Mungil class, Baby Kecil class, Baby Besar class, Edukasi class, KB class, and Pra TK class. That’s what we’re focusing on now, the active ones,” she said.
“The examinations are now up to the Edu class, next will be the Pra TK class. Then it will move up to the KB class,” Apri added.
On the other hand, Apri explained that all allegations that have emerged during the investigation process have also been thoroughly explored. This includes allegations of sexual violence and the use of drugs against the children.
“We have explored everything, but we haven’t found any evidence yet. When the police speak, it’s not just gossip; there must be evidence,” she clarified.
The police have designated 13 suspects in this case, including the foundation owner who is also the foundation chair and the school principal. Apri said there are no new suspects in this case at present.
These 13 suspects are being held at three police stations in the Yogyakarta city area. The lack of detention space at the Yogyakarta Police Resort is the reason the suspects are being held at those three stations.
“Ngampilan Police Station has 6 people, Mergangsan Police Station has 6 people, Wirobrajan Police Station has 1 person. It’s because we don’t have (cells) specifically for women that are large. At the Police Resort, most are for men,” she concluded.
The case came to light after police raided Little Aresha Daycare in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, on Friday (24/4). The raid was carried out after police received reports regarding alleged abuse of children at the daycare.
