Police escalate case of alleged assault and mob beating of Undip student Arnendo (20) to investigation stage

Semarang, Republika.co.id — Semarang City Police have raised the status of a case involving alleged assault and mob beating of Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) student Arnendo (20) to the investigation stage. Arnendo is alleged to have been beaten by around 30 campus friends and seniors. ‘For the case status, we have elevated it to the investigation stage. It is now in the investigation stage,’ said AKBP Andika Dharma Sena, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Semarang City Police, when contacted by media regarding developments in the handling of Arnendo’s alleged mob beating at the Semarang City Police Headquarters on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He added that the alleged perpetrators are quite numerous, around 20 people. ‘We will scrutinise each one’s role later on,’ he said. Andika noted the suspects are still considered witnesses for now. According to him, since the case was reported on 16 November 2025, police have interviewed six witnesses, consisting of Arnendo, his family and campus friends who witnessed the incident at the scene. ‘We are still in the process of taking statements. Some have already been invited for clarification, but they are currently out of town, so we need to schedule them again,’ he added.
