Nabire - The Nabire Police Resort (Polres) in Central Papua has assured the public that security and public order in the region remain safe and controlled following disturbances caused by an armed criminal group (KKB).

Nabire Police Chief AKBP Samuel D. Tatiratu stated on Monday that his office, working alongside the military, continues to increase patrols and security measures following KKB attacks in Nabire.

“We assure Nabire residents there is no need to panic. The situation remains safe and residents can continue their normal activities,” he said.

He noted that police personnel are conducting static patrols at various locations and mobile patrols across the region to maintain public security. He also called on the community to play an active role in safeguarding their own environments, including reactivating neighbourhood security posts (poskamling) and reporting new arrivals to village and district leaders for proper registration.

“Security is not only the responsibility of the police or military, but a shared responsibility of the government, security forces, and the entire community,” he stated.

He emphasised that all acts of violence causing public distress will be dealt with according to applicable law. However, residents were urged not to be easily provoked by unverified information.

“Trust us, both the police and military. Do not be easily swayed or spread information whose accuracy is uncertain, as this can disrupt the already conducive situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nabire Regent Mesak Magai stated that security guarantees are the primary need of the community to enable economic, educational, and social activities to run normally.

“We trust that security forces have worked hard. Moreover, Nabire is now the capital of Central Papua Province, so the presence of military and police units further strengthens regional security,” he said.

He hoped that all elements of society would maintain unity and not be influenced by issues that could escalate tensions, so that public order and security in Nabire remains safe and conducive.

Following the attacks, combined military and police forces conducted law enforcement operations against the KKB Aibon Kogoya, resulting in an armed encounter in Nabarua forest, Kali Haparan Village, Nabire District, Nabire Regency on Sunday, 1 March.

Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Brigadier General Police Faizal stated that security forces secured the location and confiscated numerous items of evidence, including 561 ammunition rounds of various calibres, 10 SS1 type weapon magazines, and AK-101 type firearms.

Additionally, authorities seized 12 mobile phones, five handy-talkies (HT), and cash totalling Rp79,900,000. KKB members fled the scene, abandoning their camp.
