Every day, police prepare 100 to 200 urine samples for testing, and by midday on Tuesday more than 50 drivers had been screened with all testing negative for drugs, said North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Erick Frendriz in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, the urine testing programme is an effort to anticipate drug abuse and health issues that could potentially trigger traffic accidents.

The urine screening is conducted by the Narcotics Investigation Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police in collaboration with the North Jakarta City Narcotics Board and the City Leadership Communication Forum, and is being carried out at Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal.

Kombes Pol Erick urged the public to pay attention not only to safety during their journeys but also to the security of their homes during the exodus period.

“Our Forkopimko will continue to conduct oversight ahead of Lebaran to create a safe and conducive situation during the exodus flow until Eid al-Fitr celebrations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sinar Jaya Bus driver on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route, Ujang Prasetyo, said the activity was very helpful for bus crew members to determine their health condition before undertaking long journeys.
