Police Education Chief: Technological Disruption a Future Challenge for Police

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat Polri), Commissioner General Ridwan Zulkarnain Panca Putra Simanjuntak, stated that technological disruption poses a challenge for the police going forward. “Now, a police officer’s duties are not only confined to a room, but have spread into cyberspace,” Panca said when met at the Police Science College (STIK) building in South Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that technological progress brings not only positive impacts but also negative ones, such as the increasingly aggressive spread of negative content. The relentless flow of unverified information, he said, can trigger conflict within society. The police, as guardians of security and order, will have to face this. “They will confront conditions on the ground when the social sense of the community is increasingly thinning and societal unity is increasingly thinning. Ultimately, this can give rise to social conflicts within the community. That is the most tangible challenge,” he said. Therefore, the National Police, through Lemdiklat, particularly STIK, is providing knowledge to personnel as a foundation to face the impacts of technological disruption in the future. “We hope they will continue to enhance their knowledge. Not only from this institution, but through training programmes that the National Police will and continue to conduct to improve its human resource capacity,” he added. Panca said that after graduation, the graduates will be immediately deployed to the field according to their rank and the position they hold. In this way, the graduates can directly apply the knowledge they have learned. “They must go down to the field to be able to apply the results of the knowledge gained while at this institution, and later it will be used as an analytical tool to solve social problems in the community related to police duties, including how to realise public security and order,” he stated.
