Police Display Faces of Suspects in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
Jakarta Metropolitan Police have revealed the faces of the suspected perpetrators in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The suspects’ photos were displayed during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3). In the photos, the suspects are riding a motorcycle, one wearing batik-patterned clothing and the other blue attire. Both were captured on CCTV along the routes they took before and after the incident. “This is the result of footage obtained from CCTV. We emphasise to all colleagues that this has not been altered or processed in any way. Therefore, we can account for the fact that this is not the result of artificial intelligence (AI),” said Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Iman Imannudin. “This is purely taken from CCTV captured by surveillance cameras along the routes traversed by the perpetrators. Thus, it is not the result of artificial intelligence,” he added. Based on the displayed photos, the front passenger is a man driving the motorcycle, while the one sitting at the back is the executor who threw the acid at Andrie Yunus. “This is the rear part, at the crime scene, seen throwing liquid at the victim,” he added. In a separate location, Commander of the TNI Central Personnel Education Command, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, revealed that the suspected perpetrators of the acid attack terror on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus are four TNI soldiers. “This morning, I received from the TNI Headquarters Intelligence Detachment four individuals suspected of assaulting Andrie Yunus,” said Yusri during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3). These four are named as prime suspects in the terror incident that occurred on 12 March on Jalan Talang and Salemba 1, Central Jakarta. “From the four suspected suspects earlier, first with initials NDP, second SL, third BHW, fourth ES,” said Yusri. Furthermore, Yusri stated that the four suspected perpetrators have been arrested and are at the TNI Central Personnel Education Command. They are undergoing further investigation, including to determine the motive of the perpetrators. “These suspects are charged under Article 467 of the Criminal Code Law Number 1 of 2023. There are paragraphs 1 and 2, where the penalties are stipulated, some four years, some seven years,” he said. “Then, as a follow-up to the investigation, the TNI Central Personnel Education Command will carry out activities to file a police report. Perhaps later from the victim witness, and carry out temporary detention, and immediately apply for visum et repertum at RSCM,” he added.
