Police Display Faces of Acid Attack Perpetrators on KontraS Activist from CCTV Footage
Metro Jaya Regional Police have provided an update on the case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Police have displayed photographs of the perpetrators who carried out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. “These are the results from the CCTV footage we have obtained. We emphasise to all colleagues that this has not been altered or processed in any way. Therefore, we can be accountable that this is not the result of artificial intelligence,” said the Director of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imannudin, at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026). The photographs of the perpetrators show them using a motorbike, wearing batik-patterned clothing and blue clothing. Both were captured on CCTV along the route they took before and after the incident. “This is purely taken from CCTV captured by surveillance cameras along the route traversed by the perpetrators. Thus, it is not the result of artificial intelligence,” he stated. Based on the displayed photographs, the two are men, with the front one driving the motorbike. Meanwhile, the one sitting at the back is the perpetrator who threw the acid at Andrie Yunus. “This is the rear part, at the scene of the crime it can be seen throwing liquid at the victim,” he added. TNI Headquarters previously also conducted an internal investigation regarding the acid attack case on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. TNI Headquarters stated that the internal investigation was carried out to address issues circulating in society regarding allegations of TNI personnel involvement. “On this good occasion, I see, responding to the existing situation developments, where one of them might be about the assault incident against brother AY. Where we see there are opinions developing in society, suspected perpetrators are from the TNI,” said TNI’s Head of Information, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, to reporters at the TNI Information Centre, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/3). “I need to convey that since the incident, the TNI has responded by conducting an internal investigation. And I ask fellow journalists to be patient, because we in the TNI work professionally and transparently,” he continued.
