Police dispersed demonstrators who remained outside the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Thursday evening (27/8).

Observations at the scene showed police initially repelled the crowd by spraying water cannon at around 7pm Western Indonesia Time, then drove the crowd back.

Some of the demonstrators retreated towards Jalan Gerbang Pemuda, while others moved towards Slipi.

Police had earlier closed the inner-city toll road from Cawang to Slipi.

As of the time of writing, police were still dispersing the crowd. Jalan Gatot Subroto in front of the DPR also remained impassable.

The afternoon protest was carried out by a number of community groups, including students from the Indonesia University of Education, the National Development University, the Open University and other community elements. Among their demands was the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
