Police disperse illegal motorcycle racing in Garut
Garut – The Garut Police Resort dispersed an illegal motorcycle racing operation that was causing public distress on the roads of the Pasirwangi area in Garut Regency, West Java, early Saturday morning. During the operation, police seized 12 motorcycles and arrested five youths for questioning.
Iptu Wahyono Aji, Head of the Pasirwangi Police Station, confirmed that his team received reports from residents about the illegal racing and deployed personnel to the racing location in the Padaasih area of Pasirwangi Subdistrict to disperse the activity.
“We successfully dispersed the illegal racing operation that was disturbing the community on Saturday morning,” he said.
Aji stated that his team had intensified patrols and remained on standby to respond quickly to any reports from the community regarding activities disrupting comfort, safety, and public order during the holy month of Ramadan. On this occasion, the operation successfully dispersed a gathering of approximately 100 motorcycles engaged in illegal racing on the street racing area.
“Police secured five individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal racing operation, while the others fled,” he said.
Aji reported that his team not only apprehended those involved in the illegal racing but also seized 12 motorcycles used for the racing, as well as alcoholic beverages found at the scene.
All arrested individuals and evidence were brought to the Pasirwangi Police Station headquarters for vehicle documentation and questioning of the offenders.
Aji stated that the enforcement action against illegal racing was necessary because such activities pose potential danger to road users and disrupt public order.
“We appeal to parents to supervise their children’s activities more closely at night and remind the community not to become involved in illegal racing operations,” he said.
