Police Disperse Brawls at Three Locations in Jakarta, 18 People Arrested

Police from Brimob Metro Jaya Police thwarted brawls at three locations in Jakarta in the early hours of Friday (22 May). A total of 18 people were arrested during the patrols. ‘Three locations are Penggilingan, Cakung, East Jakarta; Koja, North Jakarta; and Setu, Tangerang Selatan,’ said Kombes Henik Maryanto, Dansat Brimob Polda Metro Jaya, in a statement.

In Penggilingan, a joint patrol by Yon B Pelopor Brimob with the Mitigation/Presisi Patrol Team of Polres Metro Jakarta Timur arrested five teenagers. They were suspected of involvement in a clash in the Jalan Pisangan area, Penggilingan, Cakung.

Meanwhile in Koja, personnel from Patra Kompi 4 Yon B Pelopor Brimob dispersed the clash around 03.35 WIB. At the site, four youths were secured along with 11 sickles and one mobile phone.

Almost simultaneously, the Yon C Pelopor Brimob team also thwarted a brawl on Jalan Puspitek Raya, Kelurahan Setu, Tangerang Selatan. Police recovered nine people along with four sickles, one parang (machete), one bottle containing a caustic liquid and three motorcycles.

Henik said the patrols would continue to prevent kamtibmas disturbances, especially during late-night to early-morning hours. ‘The personnel on patrol act immediately when they find or receive reports of potential brawls. This quick action is taken to prevent casualties and maintain public safety,’ he said.

Furthermore, Henik urged the public, especially parents, to increase supervision of the activities of children and youths. He also asked residents to report any potential brawls or kamtibmas disturbances. ‘If people see potential brawls or other kamtibmas disturbances, report to the nearest police station or contact the Polri Call Center 110 so it can be acted upon quickly,’ he said.
