Police Discover Wall-Embedded Safe During Raid on de'Clan Cafe

Police have discovered a safe embedded in a wall during a raid on the de’Clan Signature cafe in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, as part of a corruption investigation. The safe, secured with a black keypad, was found hidden behind a cupboard on the second floor of the establishment. ‘Yes,’ confirmed Brigadier General Totok Suharyanto, Head of the Corruption Eradication Task Force at the Indonesian National Police, when asked about the find on Wednesday. Photographs from the scene show four criminal investigation officers examining the grey safe door, which faces a corridor equipped with an air conditioning unit. ‘There may already be documentation of this safe. It was concealed behind a cabinet, and it has now been opened,’ said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, at the location. Inside the safe, investigators found documents and a substantial amount of foreign currency believed to be linked to the corruption cases under investigation. The currencies included Singapore dollars and US dollars. ‘It turns out there were several documents and a storage of money in a very large, fantastic amount. This was in Singapore dollars and US dollars,’ he explained. The police conducted searches at the cafe, a money changer, and several other locations today. The searches are related to at least three cases. Brigadier General Totok Suharyanto stated that the investigations are being handled jointly with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. He said the cases involve alleged corruption in coal procurement that caused a blackout, the ASABRI case, and the debt settlement process from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel.
