Police have uncovered a massive cache of cash and documents during a raid on the de’Clan cafe in Cipete, South Jakarta, as part of a sweeping corruption investigation. The discovery includes a large vault embedded in the cafe’s wall containing Singapore dollars, US dollars, and Indonesian rupiah, with a total value estimated at nearly Rp 60 billion. “We have seized several documents and electronic devices, including mobile phones,” said Brigadier General Totok Suharyanto, Head of the Corruption Eradication Task Force at the National Police, at the scene on Wednesday. The seized currency comprised SGD 3,130,000 in SGD 100 notes, USD 889,965, and Rp 259,159,000 in cash. The operation is a joint investigation between the National Police’s Corruption Task Force and the Metro Jaya Regional Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate. It targets three separate cases: alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered a blackout in Sumatra, a case involving state-owned insurance firm ASABRI from 2020 to 2025, and the settlement of debts from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of state-owned steelmaker Krakatau Steel. Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Commissioner Budi Hermanto confirmed that the investigation has the direct attention of President Prabowo Subianto. The simultaneous raids covered multiple locations, including a money changer, as authorities gathered evidence related to bribery, gratuities, and money laundering.
