Police Disband Sack Fighting and Illegal Racing in Garut

The Tarogong Kidul Police Station (POLSEK) under Garut Police District (Polres) disbanded a sack-fighting incident involving dozens of youths on Proklamasi Street, Jayaraga Village, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, West Java. The incident occurred on Sunday (1 March) at approximately 02:30 WIB in the early morning, and officers successfully secured one motorcycle unit.

The Chief of Tarogong Kidul Police Station, Senior Commissioner Agus Kustanto, stated that his team received a report from residents regarding youths conducting sack-fighting on Proklamasi Street. Officers on routine patrol immediately proceeded to the scene. During the dispersal operation, officers secured one motorcycle unit.

“Officers conduct routine patrols to anticipate potential public order disturbances such as illegal racing, motorcycle gangs, theft, sack-fighting and other disruptions. However, officers received reports from the public regarding a group of people conducting sack-fighting and allegedly carrying sharp weapons at the location,” he said on Sunday (1 March 2026).

According to Agus, the group of youths involved in the sack-fighting fled the scene, prompting officers to conduct a sweep around Proklamasi Street. Police discovered a Honda Sonic motorcycle bearing registration number Z 3269 DAW abandoned by its owner and immediately transported it to the Tarogong Kidul Police Station headquarters for investigation purposes.

“We appeal to the public, particularly youths, not to engage in sack-fighting or other activities that can disrupt public order and endanger their own safety and that of others,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Wanaraja Police Station, Garut Police District, Senior Commissioner Abusono reported that in addition to sack-fighting incidents during Ramadan, his unit received reports of illegal motorcycle racing on a rural road in Lega, Pangatikan District, Garut Regency, at approximately 01:30 WIB. Officers immediately proceeded to the scene and dispersed the group, apprehending five youths and seizing five motorcycles.

“We conducted guidance sessions and summoned their parents to prevent them from repeating such behaviour. I urge all parents not to provide motorcycles to their underage children and appeal to the public not to engage in illegal racing that can endanger themselves and other road users,” he stated.
