Police detective shot dead in raid
JAKARTA (JP): A City Police detective was shot dead yesterday when he and his team raided a cheap apartment in Pejompongan in Central Jakarta.
City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang confirmed that Chief Sergeant Kamino, 37, was shot in the raid at about 6 a.m.
"We cannot say much about the case since we are still investigating it. Kamino was probably shot by a criminal in the apartment," Aritonang said.
He said the reason for the raid on the apartment was still unclear.
It is also unclear whether Kamino, who was shot in the chest, died instantly, or on the way to Kramatjati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.
He said Kamino would be buried today in his hometown of Purworejo, Central Java.
Kamino was survived by a wife and child, he said.
Another police officer was shot dead in a robbery West Jakarta in July while escorting a man who was transporting gold bars.
The robbers, who are still at large, shot Sgt. Witono twice in the stomach and slashed his left hand. (jun)
