The police have detained three teenagers who were carrying sharp weapons, namely a sickle and a corbek, on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/8) evening at around 8.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.

“Three individuals were caught possessing and carrying sharp weapons. The three individuals have the initials MD, F, and AHB,” said the Head of Public Relations of the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKP Joko Adi Wibowo, at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Wednesday.

Joko stated that the three children in conflict with the law are aged 16, 15, and 15 respectively. They are students and reside in East Jakarta.

The three teenagers had not previously committed any criminal acts of robbery or brawling at the time they were detained.

“So if we were to say robbery or brawling, the fact is they had not yet committed such acts. At the time they were riding a motorcycle carrying long sharp weapons, members of the public noticed them, after which they were detained and handed over by the public to the Pasar Minggu Police Sector,” he said.

The police are also still investigating the origin of the sharp weapons carried and the purpose for which the three teenagers were carrying them.

In this case, the police are applying Article 307 of Law Number 1 of 2023 of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.

Nevertheless, the three have not yet been named as suspects and are currently still under arrest. The police said that the decision regarding detention will be determined after the arrest process has lasted 1x24 hours.

“Their status is still under arrest. So, we will determine whether they are detained or not after 1x24 hours,” he said.
