Kupang (ANTARA) — The Belu District Police in East Nusa Tenggara have detained a singer and finalist from the talent search programme Indonesia Idol, identified as PK, in connection with alleged child sexual abuse of a minor.

Belu Police Chief Senior Commissioner I Gede Eka Putra Astawa, reached in Kupang on Wednesday, stated that the Criminal Investigation Unit executed the continued detention of suspect PK in the early hours of Wednesday (11 March) at 01:39 WITA.

“The extended detention was carried out after the suspect’s health condition was declared improved following medical treatment,” he said.

The police chief stated that the force is taking a firm stance against all forms of crime involving children as victims, particularly in this case.

He emphasised that investigators from Belu Police are handling the case seriously, professionally, and transparently in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Child protection is a top priority and anyone proven guilty will be prosecuted under the law.

Suspect PK is currently being held in the detention facility of Belu Police along with two other suspects who were previously arrested.

The police chief added that the case has entered stage I of investigation. Investigators are currently following up on guidance from the public prosecutor through case file P19 from the prosecution office bearing reference number B-514/N.3.13/Eoh.1/03/2026, issued on 10 March 2026.

The police chief noted that in handling this case, investigators are prioritising the principle of equality before the law, without distinction based on social background, economic status, or position.

“All stages of the legal process are being carried out accountably and in accordance with procedure. This is important to ensure justice for the victim and legal certainty for all parties,” he explained.

The Belu Police chief also urged the public to remain calm and not be easily swayed by unverified issues or information.

“We ask the public to trust the legal process to the police and not spread information that cannot be substantiated. Public support is crucial so that law enforcement proceeds effectively and children can be protected from all forms of violence,” he said.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, emphasised that the police institution is giving serious attention to the case and ensuring it is handled in accordance with legal provisions.

“The Regional Police Chief has emphasised that every case involving violence against children must be handled seriously, transparently, and professionally. There is no special treatment for anyone. The principle of equality before the law must be upheld,” he explained.

He also added that the police force in the East Nusa Tenggara region will continue to oversee the legal process of the case until completion.

“We ensure that the entire investigation process proceeds in accordance with applicable legal mechanisms whilst prioritising victim protection,” he said.
