Police detain five teenagers and three sharp weapons suspected of planned brawl
The Joint Patrol Team of Brimob Batalyon B Pelopor together with the East Jakarta Metro Police Precinct Pioneer Unit detained five teenagers suspected of planning a street brawl in the Ujung Menteng area, Cakung, East Jakarta, early Sunday morning.
“We detained five teenagers suspected of planning a street brawl. The operation also resulted in the seizure of three sharp weapons,” said Dansat Brimob Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto, in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
Henik explained that the incident began at around 3.28 a.m. Western Indonesia Time when the joint team on patrol spotted a group of youths riding three to a motorcycle passing through Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai.
When officers attempted to stop them, the group tried to flee, prompting a pursuit.
Officers subsequently managed to detain the five teenagers and discovered three sharp weapons suspected to be linked to the planned brawl.
The five teenagers along with the evidence were then taken to the East Jakarta Metro Police Precinct for further examination.
Henik stressed that joint patrols are a preventive measure to provide a sense of security to the public while preventing disturbances to public order and security.
“The presence of personnel on the ground is a preventive measure to provide a sense of security to the public, as well as to prevent disturbances to public order and security,” said Henik.
Meanwhile, Director of Samapta Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Wahyu Dwi Ariwibowo, affirmed that joint patrols will be carried out consistently, particularly at times and locations prone to public order disturbances.
“We urge the public, especially parents, to also monitor their children’s activities so they do not get involved in brawls or carry sharp weapons,” said Wahyu.
