Police detain 11 in Central Jakarta public order operation

Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police detained 11 individuals suspected of possessing narcotics, illegal drugs, and other criminal offences during a Public Order Operation and stationary patrols at various high-crime locations early Thursday. During the operation, police seized synthetic tobacco, thousands of controlled drugs, sharp weapons, and vehicles lacking documentation and license plates. ‘We will strictly enforce all legal violations that could disrupt public safety,’ said Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Pol. Reynold E.P. Hutagalung in Jakarta on Thursday. The operation took place early on Thursday (28 May) from 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM WIB, involving 287 personnel from Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police and its district stations. During patrols, officers detained two men found carrying a T-shaped lock while riding a Honda Vario motorcycle. They are suspected of motor vehicle theft and are undergoing further investigation. Additionally, Tanah Abang Metropolitan Police found evidence including 33.12 grams of synthetic tobacco, 1,202 tramadol pills, 116 Hexymer pills, and empty plastic clips suspected for packaging illegal drugs. In the Cempaka Putih area, Reynold said officers also seized small packages of suspected crystal methamphetamine, synthetic tobacco, and controlled drugs such as Excimer and Tramadol from several drivers checked during the operation. He stated that the Public Order patrols would continue regularly to curb crime rates and maintain a secure environment. ‘These Public Order patrols are conducted regularly as a preventive measure against street crime, drug abuse, riots, and other public order disturbances in Central Jakarta,’ he added. Reynold emphasised that his office would not tolerate criminals or drug traffickers within the jurisdiction of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police. In addition to securing narcotics and illegal drugs, officers also confiscated an unowned clurit and several motorcycles lacking vehicle documents and license plates. Police also urged the public to report criminal or suspicious activities immediately via the 24-hour Call Center 110 service. Overall, public security and order remained safe and conducive throughout the operation. ‘We also invite the public to help maintain a safe and orderly environment,’ he added.
