Police destroy pirated disks

TANGERANG: A total of 135,210 pirated video compact disks (VCDs) and digital versatile disks (DVDs) were destroyed by police at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday.

Airport Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Firman Shantyabudi said the pirated discs had been seized from three trucks at the airport's cargo area during a raid last week.

"The pirated disks were to be sent to Denpasar, Banjarmasin and Pekanbaru using a cargo service company," he said.

During the raid, the truck drivers failed to show documents so the police opened the trucks and found the pirated VCDs and DVDs.

The police have failed to track down the owners of the disks.

"We will continue searching incoming vehicles at the cargo area to minimize delivery of illegal goods," Firman said. -- JP
