Police destroy marijuana field

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Police have destroyed a 750-square-meter marijuana plantation and arrested a farmer in the Seulimun district, about 50 kilometers west of here.

Local police chief Lt. Col. Soedarmadji said yesterday the authorities had also confiscated 2.5 kilograms of marijuana and five ounces of marijuana seeds from the farmer, 30-year-old Sf, whom they believe is the owner of the field.

Soedarmadji said the farmer had grown more than 1,000 plants on the field. The crop was ready for harvesting at the time it was discovered.

He added that the police had acted on a tip-off, and called on residents of the province to provide further help to the authorities in stamping out illicit drugs, Antara reported. (pan)
