Police destroy fire crackers

INDRAMAYU, West Java: A total of 19 bags containing tens of
thousands of firecrackers of various types were destroyed here by
local police on Sunday.

The burning of the firecrackers, which had been confiscated
from illegal traders last week, was witnessed by Indramayu Police
chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Setyo Wasisto.

The blast of the firecrackers jolted people living around the
final dumping site at the village of Penyindangan Kulon.

Setyo said after the burning that police would continue
raiding illegal traders in firecrackers.

"The possession of and trading in explosives is against the
law. Explosives are also very dangerous. Several inter-village
brawls had been initiated by playing with firecrackers," he said.
