Police deploy personnel and traffic diversion on Jalan Tendean

The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya deployed personnel and implemented traffic diversion measures to alleviate severe congestion on Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday morning. Kabagbinopsnal of Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya, Kompol Robby Hefados, explained that the action was taken following an incident where a truck carrying a heavy-duty drilling excavator became stuck on a pedestrian bridge (JPO) in the area, leaving only one lane passable. “Our officers have been on standby at the scene since dawn to manage the flow of vehicles for people starting their activities this morning. Indirectly, we are still trying to keep traffic flowing through lanes two and three alternately,” Robby said when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. To prevent a build-up of vehicles that had already queued as far back as Simpang Kuningan (HR Rasuna Said) and Warung Buncit, Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya prepared a number of tactical measures for handling traffic on the ground: Temporary closure of the flyover access to the Kapten Tendean flyover from the direction of Hotel Mercure. Diversion of the Senopati route: motorists from Tendean heading towards Senopati are temporarily diverted to enter the Warung Buncit lane and then directed to turn left. Diversion of the Blok M route: motorists from Kapten Tendean heading to Blok M are directed straight onto Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya, make a U-turn at the nearest turning point, and then turn left back towards Tendean. Reduction of vehicle volume: reducing the volume of vehicles coming from the direction of Gatot Subroto to ease the density load at the congestion point. Robby added that the comprehensive traffic engineering was scheduled to come into full effect at 8.30 a.m. WIB after the initial peak of the morning commute. In addition to traffic management, the police moved quickly to coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Highways Department to prepare for the evacuation of the large truck. “Because this incident involves the JPO structure, we must bring in a large crane. We have scheduled the survey and evacuation process to begin around 9.00 a.m. WIB for the safety of the bridge construction,” he explained. Meanwhile, for law enforcement and investigation into the cause of the incident, police have secured the truck driver at the nearest police station. “The truck driver has now been secured and is being questioned at the police station. The initial data collection on the vehicle, which has been stuck since 1.00 a.m. WIB, has been completed, and it is currently still under further investigation,” Robby said.
