Police Deploy K9 Unit to Investigate Dog Abuse Case in Bekasi

Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police have involved their Animal Unit (K9) to assist in investigating a case of alleged abuse against a Husky dog in the Kebalen area, Babelan District, Bekasi Regency, West Java. Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the initial handling of the case was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Babelan Sector Police, while the K9 team was deployed specifically to assist in tracking around the crime scene. “This alleged abuse case began when the dog was found by its owner on Sunday evening (12/7). When found, the animal was in a severely injured condition and covered in blood,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday. Budi explained that the animal suffered a wound to the head, suspected to be from a sharp object slash, requiring it to be immediately taken to a veterinarian for medical treatment. Responding to the incident, officers from Babelan Sector Police together with the Metro Jaya Police Animal Unit immediately conducted a crime scene investigation and tracking on Tuesday (14/7). During the crime scene investigation, police deployed a K9 animal named Zeus. The tracking dog scoured the plantation area by following the scent from the remaining blood trail at the location. “From the initial tracking results, K9 Zeus directed officers to an empty building that was under renovation, located about 50 metres from the point where the injured dog was found,” Budi said. Police are currently continuing their investigation to uncover the perpetrator behind the alleged animal abuse. Previously, a video circulated on social media platform Instagram, uploaded by the account @amysukmana, showing an injured dog with blood around its body.
