Police Deploy K9 Unit to Investigate Dog Abuse Case in Bekasi

Jakarta (ANTARA) — Polda Metro Jaya has deployed its Animal/K9 Unit to help investigate a suspected case of abuse against a Husky dog in the Kebalen area of Babelan Subdistrict, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the case was initially handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Babelan Police, whilst the K9 team was deployed specifically to assist with tracking around the scene of the incident.

“This suspected abuse case began when the dog was found by its owner on Sunday evening (12 July). When discovered, the animal was in a severely injured condition and covered in blood,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Budi explained that the animal suffered head wounds believed to have been caused by a sharp object, requiring it to be rushed to a veterinarian for medical treatment.

In response to the incident, officers from Babelan Police together with the Animal Unit of Polda Metro Jaya immediately conducted a crime scene examination and tracking operation on Tuesday (14 July).

During the crime scene processing, police deployed a K9 dog named Zeus.

The tracker dog combed through residents’ plantation areas, following the scent from traces of blood left at the location.

“From the initial tracking results, K9 Zeus led officers to an empty building undergoing renovation, located about 50 metres from the point where the injured dog was first found,” said Budi.

Police are still conducting further investigations to uncover the perpetrator behind the suspected animal abuse.

Previously, a video circulated on the social media platform Instagram, uploaded by the account @amysukmana, showing an injured dog with blood around its body.
