A coalition of student and civil society groups will hold a demonstration in the Monas area, Gambir, Central Jakarta. Police have deployed 1,436 personnel from combined units to guard the protest. “We are here to serve our brothers and sisters who are expressing their views,” said the head of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Reynold Hutagalung, to reporters on Friday (6 March 2026). Police have held a troop muster before the demonstration began. He emphasised that personnel on duty will not carry firearms and have been instructed to always prioritise humane, persuasive, and professional conduct. The combined personnel consist of members from Polda Metro Jaya, Metro Jakarta Pusat Police, and the ranks of the adjacent police sectors. He asked the personnel on duty to ensure security in a humane and professional manner. “The speakers and participants should remain orderly, not provoke other crowds, not block public roads, and not engage in anarchic acts such as burning old tyres or damaging public facilities,” he said. He urged residents around Monas not to be provoked. Traffic management will be prepared on a situational basis. “Traffic control will be situational and will be adjusted according to the scale of the crowd on the ground. We ask for cooperation from all parties so that the activity proceeds safely, peacefully, and calmly,” he said.
