Police Deploy 1,069 Personnel to Secure Three Protests in Central Jakarta

A total of 1,069 joint police personnel from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Central Jakarta Metro Resort Police, and sector police have been deployed to secure demonstrations at three locations in the Central Jakarta area on Thursday. Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Resort Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, stated that the action was being held by the Indonesian Islamic Student Activist Movement and several other mass elements. “Security for the demonstration by the Indonesian Islamic Student Activist Movement and several mass elements in the Gambir area is planned for 10.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time,” Erlyn said in a written statement on Thursday. Furthermore, the second and third demonstrations will be held by the Global Indonesia Federation of Trade Unions in front of the Japanese Embassy at 10.00 a.m. and in front of the German Embassy on Jalan MH Thamrin at 11.00 a.m. Meanwhile, traffic engineering at the demonstration locations will be implemented situationally, taking into account the number of masses in the field. The public is also urged to avoid the areas around the demonstration locations to anticipate traffic congestion.
