Police Deny Tangerang Golf Caddy Assault Perpetrator is a Public Official

The Tangerang City Metro Police have corrected information circulating on social media regarding the status of FP (38), the suspect in the assault of a golf caddy at the Modern Golf area in Tangerang. Police emphasised that the perpetrator is not a public official or a member of a council, as had been rumoured. The head of the Jatanras Unit of the Tangerang City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Division, AKP Suwito, revealed that based on the investigation, FP works as a self-employed used car dealer. This confirmation was obtained after investigators conducted a direct cross-check of the suspect’s residential environment in Kemiling District, Bandar Lampung City. ‘There was initial information that the perpetrator was a public official or council member, which is why this case immediately drew the attention of the leadership. However, after he was found, it turned out he is self-employed,’ Suwito said on Saturday. According to the local neighbourhood association head, FP’s daily work involves sourcing vehicle units in the Jakarta and surrounding areas to be resold in the Sumatra region. When he was arrested on Friday morning, police found only two cars at his residence, which was classified as modest. Suwito suspects the rumour about the official status arose because of the suspect’s behaviour, as he often made unilateral claims while on the golf course. ‘Perhaps when he played golf he was arrogant and liked to tell people he held certain positions, so people assumed he was an important person,’ he added. FP was previously arrested by the Opsnal team of the Tangerang City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Division at his hideout in Bandar Lampung. The Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari, confirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing further investigation for the act of violence that went viral on social media. The assault itself occurred on Tuesday night in the Modern Golf area. The Tangerang City Metro Police Public Relations Head, AKP Iwan Heriestiawan, stated that the motive for the violence was triggered by a personal issue and jealousy after the suspect made a familiar remark to a marshall, which then sparked an argument with the victim.
