Police Deny Criminalisation Allegations Against Former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah

The Indonesian National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) has responded to the controversy surrounding alleged criminalisation in the corruption case implicating former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. The agency has confirmed that the investigation it previously conducted was not motivated by criminalisation. Head of Operations at Kortastipidkor, Senior Commissioner Ahmad Yusuf Afandi, asserted that the entire legal process carried out by investigators adhered to prevailing regulations. As the handling of the case is now with the Attorney General’s Office, he requested that questions regarding the substance of the further investigation be directed to investigators at that institution. “There is no criminalisation. Therefore, regarding the further investigation and its material, please ask the Attorney General’s Office,” Yusuf told reporters on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. Yusuf also declined to comment further on the case’s construction or the alleged involvement of Febrie in the suspected corruption case at PT Asabri. According to him, all authority for handling the case now rests with the Attorney General’s Office following the transfer process. “The entire handling of the case has been handed over to the Attorney General’s Office. So the subsequent investigation is being carried out by the Attorney General’s Office. We are only providing technical assistance,” he said. Previously, the investigation into the alleged corruption and money laundering case involving Febrie Adriansyah and advocate Don Ritto was transferred from a joint team of Kortastipidkor and the Polda Metro Jaya Special Criminal Investigation Directorate to the Attorney General’s Office. Following the transfer, the Attorney General’s Office formed a special team comprising nine senior prosecutors to continue handling the case. The issue of criminalisation surfaced after Hotman Paris Hutapea, Febrie’s lawyer, held a press conference at the Attorney General’s Office on Friday, 17 July 2026. On that occasion, Hotman assessed that the case against his client constituted criminalisation. “Imagine, a person who is the pride of the President is suddenly criminalised, without even informing the President,” Hotman said.
