Police Crack Down on Noisy Motorbikes Disturbing Hospital Patients in Solo

The use of noisy or ‘brong’ exhausts in the city of Solo has become increasingly disturbing for residents, particularly patients undergoing treatment in hospitals. Responding to these complaints, the Surakarta Police moved swiftly to take firm action against motorcyclists engaging in illegal street racing near healthcare facilities.

Dr Moewardi Regional Public Hospital and Panti Waluyo Hospital had previously reported noise disturbances that were seriously disrupting patients’ peace. Following up on this, Surakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Catur Cahyono Wibowo ordered his personnel to conduct a special operation in vulnerable spots around the hospitals.

‘We are ticketing them and they must replace the noisy or non-standard exhausts. Without that, the motorbikes will remain impounded at the headquarters,’ the Police Chief stressed in a message to the Surakarta Police Public Relations Head, Assistant Commissioner Lingga Ramadhani, on Sunday evening (26/7/2026).

Lingga explained that the hospitals’ complaints were submitted via direct message to the Surakarta Police’s official Instagram account. The reports indicated that illegal street racing occurred almost every night, with the sound of the ‘brong’ exhausts audible as far as the Intensive Cardiovascular Care Unit (ICVCU) or Cardiac ICU.

This situation was deemed extremely critical because patients in the intensive care unit require total quiet for their heart recovery process. ‘Every public complaint that comes in is immediately followed up swiftly as a form of the Surakarta Police’s commitment to providing the best service,’ Lingga added.

As a sanction, in addition to the traffic fine, vehicle owners are required to replace their ‘brong’ exhausts with standard ones that meet factory specifications at the police station as a condition for retrieving their vehicles.

The Surakarta Police are now increasing patrol intensity to curb illegal street racing, which is considered increasingly reckless and indiscriminate about location. The police have affirmed there will be no tolerance for users of noisy exhausts that disrupt public order and endanger other road users in the city of Solo.
