Police Crack Down on Illegal Mine in Sungai Bawang, Kuansing; PETI Raft Destroyed
The Kuantan Singingi Police Resort (Kuansing), through the Singingi Hilir Police Sector, has once again shown its commitment to eradicating unlicensed gold mining (PETI) activities. The PETI raft equipment was destroyed by burning.
Kuantan Singingi Police Chief AKBP Hidayat Permana explained that the crackdown was carried out after receiving information about illegal gold mining activities in the flow of Sungai Bawang Atas, Petai Village, Singingi Hilir Subdistrict, on Sunday (22/3). The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Singingi Hilir Police Sector moved to the location and conducted an investigation.
“From the results of the inspection at the site, no perpetrators were found, but we discovered one non-operational PETI raft without an engine,” said AKBP Hidayat in his statement on Sunday (22/3/2026).
Upon learning this, the officers immediately destroyed the evidence in the form of 1 unit of raft. The destruction was carried out by burning.
“The destruction was carried out by burning as a deterrent effect,” he added.
The Police Chief stated that this law enforcement effort is concrete evidence of the Kuantan Singingi Police Resort’s commitment to protecting the environment. He also urged the entire community to actively provide information if they find illegal mining activities that damage the environment and pollute residents’ water sources.
“Similar operations will continue to be carried out routinely to maintain the preservation of nature in Kuantan Singingi,” he concluded.
