Police Cordon Off Fatal Fire Site Near Tanah Abang Station

As of Friday (5/6/2026) at 10:00 WIB, police lines have been erected across the ruins of the building. Although smoke is no longer visible, a heavy burnt smell remains detectable up to 100 metres away. The fire has left behind blackened walls and warped steel frames. Roofs of several buildings have collapsed, with debris including corrugated iron, wood, and household furniture scattered along the roadside.

Local residents were seen observing the wreckage, while utility workers were present to repair damaged networks. Several motorcycles, partially melted by the heat, were parked directly opposite the burnt structure.

The fire occurred in a residential area on Jalan Citarum, Cideng, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, specifically near the Jatibaru parking area close to Tanah Abang Station. The blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit, according to Triyanto, the Head of Operations for the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident resulted in one fatality and five injuries, with the injured being transported to Tarakan Hospital. The fire affected 40 individuals across 10 families and impacted six houses in total.

Reported at approximately 04:48 WIB, the emergency response initially deployed two fire engines. Ultimately, a total of 22 fire engines and 88 personnel were mobilised to extinguish the flames.
