A fire swept through a densely populated residential area in Krendang Village, Tambora, West Jakarta, destroying dozens of homes last night. The site is now cordoned off by police. Detikcom observed at Jalan Krendang Barat I on Friday, 29 May 2026 at 8:30 AM WIB that flames were no longer visible, though smoke and the smell of burning remained. Most of the roofs of the burned houses had collapsed due to the fire, with household items reduced to unrecognisable debris at the scene. Currently, some residents have been displaced to temporary shelters, including Musala Al Hikmah on Jalan Krendang Barat I, while others are clearing debris from the fire site. Authorities reported 115 households and 250 people affected. The fire was reported at 7:47 PM WIB on Thursday, 28 May, and was extinguished around 11:32 PM WIB after 21 fire trucks were deployed.
