Police coordinate with Interpol over Bruneian national's death in South Jakarta

Police are coordinating with Interpol over an assault case involving two Bruneian nationals in the Blok M area of South Jakarta’s Kebayoran Baru district.

“We have also communicated with Interpol and the Bruneian police, as a police report and complaint have been filed in Brunei,” said Kebayoran Baru Police Chief AKBP Nugrahadi Kusuma to reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The assault occurred on 6 May 2026, with police only receiving the report from a friend of the victim on 18 May 2026. On Wednesday (20 May), the victim’s friend filed a police report at Kebayoran Baru Police Station with a power of attorney from the family.

Police are examining CCTV footage and gathering statements from witnesses near the scene. The victim sustained a left temple injury from the assault, which proved fatal.

“The case is being handled, and we have interviewed witnesses at the scene, confirming the incident occurred,” Nugrahadi said.

Earlier, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) detailed the sequence of events in the fatal assault involving two Bruneian nationals in the Blok M area of South Jakarta’s Kebayoran Baru district.

Polda Metro Jaya’s Public Relations Chief, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated on Tuesday that the altercation, sparked by a verbal dispute, led to victim MHF (30) being struck with a glass bottle by suspect MIA (33), resulting in death.

A joint task force comprising the Resmob Subunit of Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Department, the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police Reskrim Unit, and Kebayoran Baru Police Station immediately launched an investigation.

Suspect MIA was arrested without resistance on Monday (25 May) in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. The Bruneian national is currently detained at Polda Metro Jaya headquarters to face further legal proceedings.
