Police Continue to Trace Mysterious Man in Case of Abandoned Baby in Pasar Minggu
Police are still investigating the case of a baby girl with the initials AR who was abandoned in a gerobak nasi uduk on Jalan Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. The investigation includes efforts to identify the mysterious man said to have left the infant in the cart.
‘If we have any information, we will share it,’ said Pasar Minggu Police Sector Chief, Kompol Anggiat Sinambela, when contacted by Kompas.com via telephone on Saturday, 7 March 2026. Anggiat said authorities are continuing to gather information to bring clarity to the case. ‘With this coverage, someone may inform who might be pregnant, especially around the scene or from farther away from the scene, something like that,’ he explained.
Dinda heard the baby’s cry while she was on the second floor of her house. After descending to the ground floor, she found a black shopping bag containing the baby, dressed in blue clothing and wrapped in a blue blanket with a clean diaper. Dinda said she trembled and felt faint upon seeing the infant and called her sister and mother to assist.
In addition to the baby, the bag also contained baby supplies, packaged milk, tissues, gloves, and a note from the baby’s elder sibling with initials Z (12). In the note, Z asked for the baby to be cared for because their mother died during childbirth. ‘Please treat him/her as your own, because I will not be able to find or visit him/her again,’ Z wrote.
A resident named Ati (53) said he saw a suspicious man around 16:30 WIB before the baby was found. The man carried a black bag and appeared absorbed in his mobile phone. Ati assessed the figure as more like an adult aged 20–30, not a child as described in the note left with the baby.
Ati’s account is now one of the clues being pursued by police, including by reviewing CCTV footage around the scene.
After the baby AR was found, she was examined at Puskesmas Pasar Minggu, then handed over to Suku Dinas Sosial Jakarta Selatan and taken to PSAA Tunas Bangsa in Cipayung, Jakarta Timur. The head of the home, Rida Mufrida, said the baby was in good health, though her skin appeared yellowish. ‘Bayi AR diberi susu Infantrini setiap satu jam sekali. Selain itu, rencananya akan dibawa ke Puskesmas Cipayung untuk pemeriksaan lanjutan,’ said Rida.
