Police Continue Processing Alleged Fraudulent Embassy Vehicle Licence Plate Case
Jakarta — The Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police is continuing to process a case involving a vehicle bearing a suspected counterfeit embassy number plate (TNKB) that was allegedly used in violation of its intended purpose on the Inner City Toll Road in South Jakarta on 24 February 2026.
“The process is ongoing. A suspect has been identified and is currently undergoing examination at the Legal and Compliance Sub-directorate of the Traffic Directorate,” said Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Director Kombes Pol Komarudin in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
He stated that the case would likely be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of Jakarta Metro Police.
“It is highly probable that we will transfer this to the Criminal unit because there is potential data falsification involved,” Komarudin said.
He noted that the owner of the vehicle bearing the embassy number plate turned out to be merely a private citizen with no connection to any embassy.
“There is no connection to any embassy. The person’s occupation is not embassy-related either; they are simply an ordinary civilian,” Komarudin stated.
He revealed that the individual’s sole purpose in using the CD (Corps Diplomatique) prefix licence plate was to avoid odd-even traffic regulations.
Kasubdit Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Ojo Ruslani explained that the incident occurred on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at approximately 08:15 WIB on the Inner City Toll Road at Tegal Parang heading westbound in South Jakarta.
“Enforcement action was taken against an Avanza Veloz vehicle using the diplomatic CD 37 04 licence plate that was not in accordance with its intended purpose,” Ojo said.
He explained that the enforcement action was carried out after police received a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the fraudulent diplomatic TNKB numbers CD 37 436 and CD 37 04.
“CD 37 40 is registered with the Russian Federation Embassy and is designated for a BMW vehicle; CD 37 436 is counterfeit and is not registered with the Russian Embassy,” Ojo said.
He revealed that the vehicle had been issued a citation and would be forwarded to Ditreskrimum of Jakarta Metro Police to pursue charges relating to the falsification.
“The vehicle was cited under Article 280 of the Law on Traffic and Road Transportation, for using a licence plate number that was not in accordance with its intended purpose,” Ojo said.
