Police Confirm Viral Photo of Baby Dumper in Bekasi is Edited Image
BEKASI — Police have confirmed that a photograph circulating widely on social media, allegedly depicting the perpetrator of infant abandonment at Perumahan Tytyan Kencana in Margahayu Village, North Bekasi District, Bekasi City, is not the genuine face of the suspect.
The police have stated that the image is an edited version derived from surveillance camera (CCTV) footage and therefore cannot be used as a reference for identifying the perpetrator.
North Bekasi Police Chief Tono Listianto said the photograph circulating on social media was likely enhanced using image editing applications.
According to him, the photograph probably originated from CCTV recordings at the crime scene that were subsequently modified before being shared online.
“From our CCTV analysis, it appears that whoever distributed this likely used editing because the CCTV footage itself may not have been clear,” said Tono.
Nevertheless, police have apprehended a woman with initials N (19) suspected of abandoning the infant. Tono explained that the suspect was driven to abandon her baby out of fear of being scolded by her parents.
“The suspect’s initials are N. Her motivation was fear of her parents. She was also afraid of being thrown out of the house,” stated Tono.
He added that the suspect had previously been evicted by her parents because she frequently came home late at night or did not return home at all. This fear allegedly prompted N to abandon her baby with the hope that someone else would find and care for the child.
Police also revealed that the suspect is a resident in the vicinity of the housing complex. The act of abandoning the infant was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media.
“We secured one person because she was the one who abandoned the baby in accordance with the CCTV recording,” stated Tono.
According to Tono, the suspect gave birth to the infant in her home’s bathroom. The baby was abandoned approximately half an hour after birth.
A resident with initials LR initially heard a sound that he initially mistook for a cat. Curious, he went outside to determine the source of the sound.
LR subsequently discovered that the sound was coming from an old bathtub being used as a trash receptacle in front of a resident’s house.
