Police Confirm Video Narrating Attack on Papua Student Dormitory as Hoax!

Police have confirmed that a video narrating an attack on the Kamasan 1 Papua student dormitory in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, is a hoax. Here are the facts.

“It was not an attack on the dormitory,” stated Ps Kasi Humas Polresta Jogja Ipda Anton Budi Susilo, when asked for confirmation on Monday (6/4/2026).

News regarding the alleged attack on the Papua student dormitory circulated on social media. One account that posted the news was @suaraakarrumput.

That account uploaded a video of a crowd in front of the dormitory with a narration claiming the dormitory was attacked by unknown individuals. The video also shows several people holding weapons.

Anton explained the actual incident. Anton said the video was taken on Sunday (5/4) approaching midnight.

The incident occurred when four people asked the coffee stall in front of the dormitory and were looking for someone.

“Four people came and asked the coffee stall seller in front of the dormitory about a person’s name. However, the coffee stall seller (a Papuan resident) replied that he did not know,” said Anton.

The four unknown individuals got angry, causing the coffee seller to shout, which made the dormitory residents come out. When the dormitory residents came out, the four individuals fled.

“Subsequently, the four individuals got angry, making the coffee seller shout, which caused the dormitory residents to come out. Then the four individuals fled,” he concluded.
