Police Confirm Talau River in Belu Unaffected by AMP Mol Batu Project Pollution
Police have confirmed that the water in Talau River in Belu, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is clear and there are no activities related to the AMP Mol Batu project. Previously, the river went viral due to pollution from sirtu excavation activities for the AMP Mol Batu project. ‘We have checked the location and the water is now clear,’ said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasatreskrim) of Belu Police, AKP Rachmat Hidayat, to detikBali on Sunday (31 May 2026). The inspection was conducted on Saturday (30 May 2026), but officers found no Mol Batu project activities in Derok Faturene Village, Tasifeto Barat District, Belu. ‘Officers checked the site, but it was empty, likely due to the viral reports,’ Rachmat added. However, police are continuing to monitor the area to prevent water pollution that could affect public health, as residents rely on the Talau River for daily needs. ‘We are still monitoring and there are currently no activities,’ he said. Previously reported, the Talau River in Belu, NTT, went viral due to pollution. The contamination was suspected to be caused by sirtu excavation activities for the AMP Mol Batu project in Derok Faturene Village, Tasifeto Barat District, Belu. An Instagram post from @belu_update stated that residents have reported the Talau River’s water turning murky every morning until afternoon for over a month, disrupting bathing and washing activities due to the discoloured water. ‘The suspected cause is excavator activities for sirtu excavation in the AMP Mol Batu project in Derok Faturene Village, Tasifeto Barat District, Belu Regency.
