Police confirm Suyitno's arrest

JAKARTA: National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam confirmed on Friday that former chief of detectives Comr. Gen. Suyitno Landung was detained late on Thursday for abuse of power.

Anton said that Suyitno was being detained at the internal affairs' detention center and was being questioned intensively on Friday following his arrest.

"So far we're focusing the investigation on SL (Suyitno Landung) first, later it (the investigation) will probably develop and we can name other people as suspects," Anton said, when asked whether Suyitno's former colleagues and supervisors would also be investigated in the case, which centers around allegations that senior police officers had accepted bribes from a suspect involved the Bank BNI loan scandal.

Another suspect in the scandal, Sr. Comr. Irman Santosa, previously said that some high-ranking police officers, including the former National Police chief, were involved in the case. -- JP
